Villareal is hosting Barcelona in round 30 of Spanish LaLiga.
Villareal is a team filled with older experienced players like Moreno, Bacca, Cazorla and Soriano and only few young potentially good players like Morlanes, Caseres and Pedraza who are not getting enough chances and that is the main problem for Villareal this season. Villareal are holding 17th place in the standings with 29 points and are fighting not to get relegated and sadly this is a reality this season for a team that was close to the top of LaLiga only few years ago. Ekambi is Villareal’s top goal scorer with 7 goals while Cazorla added 6 assists. Soriano, Trigueros, Fuego, Costa and Miguelon are all injured and will not play in this game. In their last game against Celta Vigo, Villareal was dominated throughout the entire game and have had only 37% ball possession, 5 shots on goal and low 76% of correct ball possession and despite having 0-2 lead on half time, Villareal managed to lose 3-2. Villareal is doing a lot better in Europa League where they reached quarterfinals where they will play against Valencia in 2 weeks. Villareal’s goal is to keep their LaLiga status for next season which is going to be hard because Villareal is not better team then other teams fighting for same thing so if Villareal ends up winning Europa League they would get qualified for Champions League and get relegated to LaLiga 2.
Barcelona is playing amazing soccer and looks unstoppable at the moment with Messi playing in a form he is playing in. With 31 scored goals and 12 assists in 27 matches, Messi is the top goal scorer in Barcelona, Spain, and Europe and will most likely win another Golden Boot. Barcelona is on a seven-game winning streak with 22 scored goals during that period. In their last game against Espanyol, Barcelona was better team and were attacking whole game with 69% ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 88% of correct passes and ended up winning this game 2-0 with 2 goals scored by Messi. Coach Valverde is doing great job in Barcelona and has enough depth on the bench to replace and rest some important players like Rakitic, Pique and Busquets. Rafinha and Dembele are only two players on injury list and will not play in this game. Barcelona is playing the best soccer in Europe at the moment with lots of shot passes and one touch combinations and more importantly, Barcelona’s defense has improved a lot and are able to keep the ball out of their net more often then not.
Villareal have won their last game against Barcelona back in 2008 and in to big of a slump right now to give them any chances in this matchup.
