With the new Premier League season set to commence on August 9th, let’s take a look at the main contenders to finish as the league’s top goal scorer and claim the 2019/20 Golden Boot.
Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur
The England captain is the bookmaker’s favorite to claim the award.
Kane already has two Golden Boots to his name and you’d be foolish to bet against him picking up a third at the end of the upcoming campaign.
The 26-year-old Kane has been the club’s top scorer in the past five seasons and only once has he failed to score more than 20 Premier League goals in that time.
Kane missed a large chunk of last season through injury but still managed to score 17 Premier League goals for Tottenham.
If Kane can keep himself fit for the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign, he stands an excellent chance of finishing as top scorer once again.
Harry Kane to win the Golden Boot: 5.50
Mohamed Salah – Liverpool
Salah scored 22 Premier League goals last season which was enough to see him share the Golden Boot with teammate Sadio Mane and Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
“The Egyptian King” now has an astonishing 53 goals in 74 top-flight appearances for The Reds and Salah is widely regarded as one of the world’s best players.
Salah's 32 Premier League goals in 2017/18 is also the highest individual total of any player in a 38-game season.
With Liverpool proving last season that they can compete with Manchester City; Salah could be on the verge of claiming three consecutive Golden Boots.
Mohamed Salah to win the Golden Boot: 6.00
Sergio Aguero – Manchester City
The unstoppable Argentine Aguero has hit 20+ goals in the last five Premier League seasons and doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon.
Overall, Aguero has 164 Premier League goals to his name and last season he became Manchester City’s all-time record goal scorer.
Aguero is surrounded by a frightening array of attacking talent at City and manager Pep Guardiola’s tactics have enabled Aguero to thrive in recent years.
Manchester City have won the last two Premier League titles and Aguero is likely to continue to score at a rapid rate.
Sergio Aguero to win the Golden Boot: 6.00
Other Potential Candidates
Last season’s joint Golden Boot winners Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) and Sadio Mane (Liverpool) are more than capable of challenging for the award again.
Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) scored 17 EPL goals lest term however it’s difficult to imagine him having such a successful season in front of goal this time around.
Alexandre Lacazette (Arsenal) and Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) are both 21.00 to claim the award however it’s tough to make a case for either of them outscoring their rivals.
At 26.00, Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) and Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) are both longshots to clinch the prize.
The Pick – Sergio Aguero
Pep Guardiola’s free-scoring Manchester City are on course for a third consecutive Premier League title and Aguero looks set to lead the line for his side once again.
