Adrian Mannarino and Jordan Thompson meet in the second round of the tennis Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.

Adrian Mannarino enters this tournament having not played since making the fourth round of the Wimbledon before being bounced by Roger Federer in straight sets. Mannarino was rather impressive with his serve in the grand slam tournament and converted on majority of the break points he earned. Mannarino is playing some of the most consistent tennis he’s played in quite some time, and he should be looking at this tournament as a chance to make his second final of the year. Mannarino is the top ranked player in this draw for a reason and should do his best to take advantage of it, giving him a major highlight for what has already been a successful season. Mannarino has won six of his last eight matches on grass court.

Jordan Thompson is coming off a straight sets win over James Duckworth that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Thompson won 68 percent of his first serve points and 17 percent of his second serve points. Thompson won 58 percent of his total service points and broke on five of the six chances. Thompson entered this tournament on a serious losing streak on grass, so the victory over a respectable opponent gives him a much needed shot in the arm. Unfortunately, Thompson has still lost seven of his last 10 matches overall, so the confidence can’t be too high for the 24-year-old. Thompson has to be much better with his serve, especially on his second serve, if he’s going to have any chances of earning possibly the biggest win of his season. Thompson has split his last six matches on grass court.

These two have played once, which was in a 2017 match Mannarino won in straight sets. The match took 17 games to be decided.

Thompson is in brutal form at the moment, and a win over Duckworth doesn’t move the needle much. He’s struggled far too often before that match to just wipe away previous results. Mannarino is playing some of his most consistent tennis in a while and is fresh off a solid fourth round showing in the Wimbledon. The Frenchman should be able to build on that success.

I like Mannarino in straight sets here.

Pick:
Adrian Mannarino
