Cornet vs. Radwanska
|Date & Time||Saturday June 3, 2017, 9:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Radwanska -210 / Cornet +180 -- Over/Under:
Agnieszka Radwanska and Alize Cornet meet in the third round of the 2017 French Open.
Agnieszka Radwanska is coming off a three set win over Alison Van Uytvanck that took 30 games to decide. In the victory, Radwanska won 73 percent of her first serve points and 48 percent of her second serve points. Radwanska continues to be the disciplined, clean tennis player she's almost always, but her second serve must improve if she hopes to make a serious tournament run. Radwanska has lost a combined 28 second serve points in her first two matches and it had a lot to do with her having to play three sets. Radwanska is in the third round but is capable of playing even better. Radwanska hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the fifth time in six tries. Radwanska also looks for her sixth career French Open fourth round appearance. Radwanska has won five of her last six matches on clay court.
Alize Cornet is coming off a straight sets win over Barbora Strycova that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Cornet won 61 percent of her first serve points and 46 percent of her second serve points. Cornet managed to win her second round match easily despite having more unforced errors than winners and being poor on the second serve. Cornet has won better than 50 percent of her return points during this tournament and that will give her a shot here as well if she can keep it up. Cornet hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the third time since 2014. Cornet has made the fourth round of the French Open just once in her career. Cornet has split her last six matches on clay court.
These two have played eight times and Radwanska has won seven of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2016 Miami Masters, a match Radwanska won in 13 games. Cornet’s only win over Radwanska came in the 2014 Katowice Open. This will be their second meeting on clay.
Cornet will have a shot here given her return ability and the fact the place will be going crazy in support for the hometown player. Radwanska has to play better than her previous two matches if she hopes to get through. When all said and done, Radwanska has had little trouble with Cornet in previous meetings and is capable of taking things to a second gear when needed. I’m not sure the same can be said for Cornet.
I like Radwanska to get the job done.
