Agnieszka Radwanska and Donna Vekic meet in the first round of the 2018 tennis Istanbul Cup.

Agnieszka Radwanska will play her first match since losing in the fourth round of the Miami Masters. Radwanska enters this tournament with a shaky 9-7 record this season and has lost four of her last six matches overall. However, Radwanska did seem to find some success in South Florida, which included a win over Simona Halep and breaking Victoria Azarenka three times. Radwanska is usually one of those players who makes her runs later in the year, but I’m sure she’d love to find some consistency now, especially with the French Open quickly approaching. This is a tournament that should favor Radwanska, especially with her winning it in 2008 and being the runner-up in 2015. Radwanska also won the Istanbul Cup in doubles play back in 2007. Radwanska has won five of her last seven matches on clay court.

Donna Vekic enters this match with a 7-9 record on the main tour this season and has lost six of her last 10 matches overall. Vekic is coming off a loss to Mona Barthel in which she was broken three times and won just 34 percent of her return points. Vekic just can’t get any consistency going and is losing to players she probably shouldn’t be losing to if we’re being completely honest. Vekic has been a top-50 / top-60 player in the world for a while now and needs to start putting together better results if the 21-year-old hopes to take that next step in her career. Vekic has split her last six matches on clay court.

This will be the first match between these two players.

Radwanska has had her fair share of struggles so far this season, but it’s been nothing like what we’ve seen from Vekic. The Croatian is struggling with pretty much everything right now and the results don’t lie. Radwanska should have a field day with the return and get plenty of break chances.

Radwanska cruises in straight sets.
