Agnieszka Radwanska and Jessica Pegula meet in the first round of the 2016 US Open.

Agnieszka Radwanska enters the US Open is fabulous form after just winning the Connecticut Open. Radwanska has now won 10 of her last 12 sets and has lost just 14 games in her last three matches combined. Radwanska looks calm out there on the court, is hitting her spots with ease and is putting all of the pressure on her opponent. Radwanska is a threat to make the first deep US Open run of her career. Radwanska has lost in the first round of a grand slam once since 2014. Radwanska has won six of her last seven matches on hard court.

Jessica Pegula qualified for the US Open for the second time in her career and hopes to pull off a massive upset in front of her home fans. Pegula is from New York and is likely going to have strong fan support for this match. Also, Pegula pulled off an upset in last years US Open by beating Alison Van Uytvanck in straight sets. Still, Pegula has very little tennis success overall for her career and should go out there and look to play aggressively. Pegula has nothing to lose and that can make her a dangerous opponent in the first round. Pegula has split her last eight matches on hard court.

This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.

Magic usually happens in the US Open, but it’s not going to take place here. Radwanska is playing way too well and clean tennis that makes her a serious quarterfinalist in this tournament. Pegula is in over her head.

Radwanska in straight sets.

Pick:
Agnieszka Radwanska
