The Line: -- Over/Under:
Alex De Minaur and Taylor Fritz meet in the final of the 2019 tennis Atlanta Open.
Alex De Minaur is coming off a three sets win over Reilly Opelka that took 35 games to decide. In the victory, De Minaur won 96 percent of his first serve points and 59 percent of his second serve points. De Minaur won 77 percent of his total service points and converted on two of his nine break points. De Minaur got 51 percent of his first serves in play, didn’t face a single break point and had five aces. De Minaur has won six of his seven sets this tournament and it’s the first time he’s won three straight matches since Sydney. De Minaur hopes to win his second title of the year and his second of his career. De Minaur is 1-2 in career final appearances. De Minaur has won five of his last seven matches on hard court.
Taylor Fritz is coming off a three sets win over Cameron Norrie that took 25 games to decide. In the victory, Fritz won 77 percent of his first serve points and 57 percent of his second serve points. Fritz won 68 percent of his total service points and converted on three of his seven break points. Fritz got 56 percent of his first serves in play, faced two break points and hit 15 aces. Fritz has won six of his seven sets this tournament and has won four of his last six matches that have gone the distance. Fritz hopes to win his second title of the year and his second of his career. Fritz is 1-1 in career final appearances. Fritz has split his last six matches on hard court.
De Minaur won both meetings against Fritz in straight sets. The matches took place in the 2018 Next Gen Finals and a 2018 challenger match.
De Minaur is coming off a strong victory over Opelka where he served out of his mind and he’ll win if he can repeat that effort. The problem has been consistency with De Minaur, and he has these matches where he easily gets discouraged and can fall apart. Fritz has been a completely different player these last few months, which includes winning Eastbourne and making the semifinals in Lyon. Fritz is not the same player De Minaur faced twice last year, and that confidence is on another level right now.
Close and fun match, but I give the slight edge to Fritz.
