Alexander Zverev vs Alex de Minaur - 2/28/19 ATP Tour - Mexican Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

German tennis superstar, Alexander Zverev has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2019 ATP Mexican Open. At this stage of the tournament, Alexander Zverev will face Alex de Minaur from Australia.

Alexander Zverev had a big win in the previous round as he easily beat Spaniard, David Ferrer. It was a dominant display by Alexander Zverev as he won in straight sets. During the victory, Zverev served very well as he won 71% of his service games which resulted in him winning 90% of his service games. In addition to his serve, Alexander Zverev also impressed with his returning as he won 46% of his receiving points which allowed him to break Ferrer’s serve on 3 occasions. Alexander Zverev is ranked as the third best player in the world and following his success at the ATP Finals, he looks like a very confident player.

On the other side of the coin, Alex de Minaur received an automatic win in the previous round due to his opponent retiring. It has been a really strong season for Alex de Minaur as he won the ATP Sydney International in January and third round of the Australian Open. This is Alex de Minaur first tournament since the Australian Open and he started the campaign well as he won his opening match in straight sets. This is expected to be a much tougher match for Alex de Minaur as he playing a much stronger opponent in Zverev.

Alex de Minaur and Alexander Zverev have played each other 3 times in the past with Zverev winning all of the matches. The most recent match between these two players was in 2018 at the Shanghai Masters where Alexander Zverev won in straight sets.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Alexander Zverev to win. Zverev is the stronger player and considering his recent form, he should be too good for Alex de Minaur.

Pick:
Alexander Zverev
