In the third round of the 2019 ATP Shanghai Masters in China, Alexander Zverev is set to play against Andrey Rublev from Russia.

Alexander Zverev played well in the previous round as he defeated Jeremy Chardy in straight sets. It was a comfortable win for Zverev as he had control over the majority of the points. The serving was especially impressive from Alexander Zverev as he hit 19 aces which helped him win 79% of his service points and 83% of his service games. Furthermore, Zverev also won 2 return games to secure a good win. It has been a strong few weeks for Alexander Zverev as he made the semifinals of the China Open and also helped Team Europe win the Laver Cup. Zverev looks confident and is expected to be a tough opponent to beat.

Looking at his opponent, Andrey Rublev enters this match having beaten John Millman in straight sets in the previous round. It was a dominant display by Rublev as he only lost 2 games in the entire match. It has been a very strong tournament for Andrey Rublev as he beat Borna Coric in the opening round and is yet to drop a set. Despite the form he has shown at this event, Andrey Rublev must produce his best tennis if he wishes to compete with Alexander Zverev.

Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev have played each other twice in the past with Zverev winning on both occasions. The most recent match between these two players was in 2017 at the China Open where Zverev won in straight sets. Rublev is yet to win a set against Alexander Zverev.

Andrey Rublev is a hugely improved player but I don’t see him having enough to beat Alexander Zverev. Zverev has been in good form and the German seems to have an edge over Rublev. Zverev has looked good since arriving in China and I see him being too strong for Rublev.
