The Line: -- Over/Under:
The world number 3, Alexander Zverev will be in action in Toronto as he takes part in the ATP Rogers Cup. The German superstar has had it to the round of 16 where he will take on Russian qualifier, Daniil Medvedev. Both players will know the importance of this match since it offers a spot in the last 8 of a major tournament. This should ensure that both players produce their best tennis.
Daniil Medvedev made it into this tournament via the qualifiers and has done well since his arrival. The Russian has already eliminated the number 8 seeded player, Jack Sock. That win was very impressive and it showed that the Russian is a very good player. This will be a much harder task as he is taking on one of the best players in the world. That being said, confidence will be high for the Russian and that can result in just about anything.
Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, is in the best form of his life. The German is coming off an ATP win in Washington DC and is now looking to win back to back titles. The world number 3 is already an elite player and is not even 22. This is incredibly impressive and there are huge expectations on his, especially in the upcoming US Open. The German superstar has never made it past the quarterfinals of a grand slam event and that is something he will look to change. Having a deep run in this tournament will be important for Alexander Zverev since it will give him momentum heading into Flushing Meadows.
All in all, I think that Alexander Zverev will be way too strong for Daniil Medvedev. The Russian has played well all tournament but I don’t think he has enough skill to compete with the German superstar. I am expecting Zverev to win easily in straight sets.
