German tennis player, Alexander Zverev is the number 6 seed at Wimbledon. Zverev will begin his campaign against Jiri Vesely from Czechia.

Jiri Vesely gained entry into Wimbledon via the qualifying event where the Czech player defeated 3 opponents in straight sets. Vesely currently has a record of 4-1 on grass in 2019 which shows that the player is in decent touch. Grass is a strong surface for Vesely as he has won over 60% of his grass court matches.

Looking at his opponent, Alexander Zverev enters this tournament with a realistic expectation of winning the title. Prior to arriving in the United Kingdom, Zverev played at the Halle Open where he made it to the quarterfinals. Zverev was eliminated by David Goffin at the Halle Open.

It has been a decent few months for Alexander Zverev as he had a solid clay court season. Zverev made the quarterfinals of the French Open and won the Geneva Open.

This is the fifth time that Alexander Zverev is playing at Wimbledon. As it currently stands, Zverev has an 8-4 record at this tournament with his best record being a fourth-round appearance in 2017. In general, Alexander Zverev has a solid record on grass as he has won 66% of his matches on this surface. Zverev has made 2 ATP finals on grass.

Over the past few seasons, Alexander Zverev has established himself amongst the top 10 in the world. That being said, a major criticism against Zverev has been his performances at Grand Slam events.

This will be the first time that Jiri Vesely and Alexander Zverev will be playing each other at an ATP event.

Despite Zverev’s record at Grand Slams and his modest record at Wimbledon, the German is still a contender to win this tournament. Alexander Zverev has been in good form and having just won the Geneva Open, I see him having enough confidence and ability to defeat Jiri Vesely.
