Alexander Zverev vs Martin Klizan - 3/9/19 ATP Tour - Indian Wells Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

German tennis superstar, Alexander Zverev will begin his 2019 ATP Indian Wells Open in the second round. At this stage of the tournament, Alexander Zverev will face Martin Klizan from Slovakia.

Martin Klizan enters this match having beaten Alexander Zverev’s brother, Mischa, in the previous round. It was a comfortable win for Klizan as he won in straight sets. During the victory, Martin Klizan served exceptionally well as he won 78% of his service points which resulted in the Slovak winning all of his service games. In addition to the serve, Klizan was also very strong while returning serve as he 44% of his receiving points which enabled him to break Mischa’s serve on 3 occasions. Alexander Zverev is a much more accomplished player than Mischa so Klizan will have to be at his best if he wishes to complete.

On the other side of the court, Alexander Zverev received an opening round bye due to his high seeding. Zverev enters this tournament in exceptional form as finished second at the ATP Mexican Open last week. Alexander Zverev showed his class during the Mexican Open as he only lost 2 sets in the entire tournament. Zverev is currently world number 3 and he has been showing his class at non-Grand Slam events for the past few seasons.

This will be the first time that Alexander Zverev and Martin Klizan will be playing each other at an ATP event.

Martin Klizan had a strong win in the opening match of the tournament but I see the Slovak’s tournament ending in the second round. Alexander Zverev is a much stronger player and the German superstar enters this tournament in exceptional form as he just finished runners-up at the Mexican Open. Zverev is one of the favourites to win the entire event and I see him living up to his expectations by winning this match with ease.
