Berankis vs. Zverev

The Line: -- Over/Under:
Alexander Zverev and Ricardas Berankis meet in the first round of the 2018 tennis French Open.
Alexander Zverev is coming off a final appearance in the Rome Masters in which he pushed Rafael Nadal to three competitive sets. Zverev enters this tournament with a 27-7 record and has won 16 of his last 18 matches on clay. We all knew Zverev was a future star and will eventually be one of the top players in the world, but at just 21 years old, it looks like that time is now, as the kid is proving he’s ready for the big stage and is racking up titles consistently as of late. The next step for Zverev is having a breakthrough performance at a grand slam, as he’s never reached a quarterfinal and has made the fourth round just once in his career. Will this be his shining moment? Zverev has won 10 of his last 11 matches on clay.
Ricardas Berankis will play his first clay match of the year and is coming off winning the St. Brieuc Challenger. Berankis has done a good job of getting the first serve in play and has produced a combined 14 aces in his last three matches. Free points will be key for the soon-to-be-28-year-old, as he’s pretty much outmatched everywhere else in this match. Get a rhythm with the serve, take care of your side and maybe you can create nerves for the young German. Berankis has made it out of the first round of a grand slam just once since 2016. Berankis has two career wins over top-10 players, but none of them have come since 2016. Berankis has won five of his last seven matches on clay.
This will be the first ever match between these two players.
Zverev is playing too well to lose this match, especially against a guy who hasn’t had a winning season on the main tour since 2012. Berankis is probably just happy to be here given his lack of success on the big stage. This has to be one of the more lopsided first round matches of the whole tournament.
Zverev wins in straight sets.
