Kateřina Siniaková representing the Czech Republic will play Alison Riske representing the United States in the second rubber of the 2018 Fed Cup Finals.
Kateřina Siniaková has been in decent form as she finished second in the doubles event at the 2018 WTA Finals. As far as singles tennis is concerned, Kateřina Siniaková performed well at the WTA China Open and WTA Wuhan Open as she made the quarterfinals of both events. This will be the first time that Kateřina Siniaková is playing a singles match at this season’s Fed Cup as she represented the Czech Republic in the doubles rubber during the quarterfinal and semifinal ties. Kateřina Siniaková is a very capable player but it may be tough for the Czech player to adjust to the added responsibility of playing singles tennis.
Similarly, Alison Riske has not played any singles rubbers at this year’s Fed Cup either. This will be the third time that Alison Riske will be representing the United States at the Fed Cup and unfortunately for the American, she has a record of 0-2 in this tournament. It has been a tough few weeks for Alison Riske as she has lost her last 3 singles matches. With such a poor run leading into this tournament, it will be hard for Alison Riske to turn around her form for this match.
Alison Riske and Kateřina Siniaková have played 3 times in the past. As it currently stands, Kateřina Siniaková has the stronger record of 2-1. The most recent match between these two players was at this season’s WTA Hobart where Alison Riske won. Kateřina Siniaková’s last win over Riske was at the 2017 WTA Shenzhen Open.
Considering the lack of experience at this level for both players, this match will be dictated by the player who can handle pressure better. For that reason, I am going to pick Kateřina Siniaková to win as she has been in better form and should have more confidence heading into this fixture. I see Kateřina Siniaková winning this rubber for the Czech Republic.
