Alize Cornet and Tamara Korpatsch meet in the semifinals of the 2019 tennis Ladies Open Lausanne.
Alize Cornet is coming off a three sets win over Natalia Vikhlyantseva that took 26 games to decide. In the victory, Cornet won 50 percent of her first serve points and 55 percent of her second serve points. Cornet won 52 percent of her total service points and converted on eight of her 12 break points. Cornet got 59 percent of her first serves in play and saved five of her 10 break points. Cornet dominated the match after dropping the first set, and it’s just her fourth victory in her last 11 matches that have gone the distance. Cornet has now won three matches in two of her last three tournaments. Cornet hopes to make her 13th career final appearance and the first since the 2018 Swiss Open. Cornet has won four of her last six matches on clay court.
Tamara Korpatsch is coming off a three sets win over Jil Belen Teichmann that took 22 games to decide. Korpatsch won 59 percent of her total service points and converted on six of her 17 break points. Korpatsch got 61 percent of her first serves in play and saved three of her five break points. Korpatsch lost just one game after dropping the first set and has won all three matches this tournament in three sets. Korpatsch has won four of her last six matches on clay court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
Both of these players have had issues with their serve this tournament, so this really comes down to who can string together two or three games in a row. For me, Cornet has been the more consistent player overall these last two weeks and has far more experience in these type of matches. Korpatsch has no previous main tour success she can rely on when the pressure points take place.
While you just never know with Cornet, she should make her first final appearance of the year.
