Ana Ivanovic vs. Lucie Safarova 2015 French Open, Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Ana Ivanovic and Lucie Safarova meet in the semifinal of the 2015 French Open.

Ana Ivanovic has dropped three sets in this tournament and is coming off a straight set victory over Elina Svitolina. Ivanovic has played 28 or less games in every match and zero tiebreaks. Ivanovic has won at least 67 percent of her first serve points and has hit 67 winners in her last two matches. Ivanovic has gotten at least 54 percent of her first serves in play in her last three matches, and she has 22 aces overall in this tournament. Ivanovic has relied on her experience to overcome tough spots so far this tournament. However, Ivanovic needs to limit her errors if she hopes to advance, as she’s produced 12 double faults and had 55 unforced errors in her last two matches. Ivanovic looks to reach her fourth major final and third at the French Open.

Lucie Safarova has yet to drop a set this tournament and is coming off a victory over Garbine Muguruza. Safarova has played no more than 26 games in a single match and has five tiebreaks. Safarova has won at least 70 percent of her first serve points and has hit 62 winners in her last two matches. Safarova has 11 aces in her last two matches and has gotten at least 59 percent of her first serves in play. Safarova has hit some great shots in this tournament and is oozing with confidence. To advance, Safarova could also clean her game up, as she has 10 double faults in her last three matches. Safarova looks to reach the first major final of her career with a victory.

These two have played each other eight times in the past, and Safarova has won five of those meetings. Ivanovic won their most recent meeting in 2014 in Tokyo, and they’ve split their only two meetings on clay. Safarova beat Ivanovic in last year’s French Open.

Ivanovic has far more experience in majors and solid success playing in this tournament. However, Safarova is in better form right now and is playing with great confidence it takes to win at this level. I’ve been impressed with the shots Safarova has made so far, and I think she can get another win here.

Look for Safarova to make her first major final of her career.

Pick:
Lucie Safarova
