Russian tennis player, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2019 WTA Pan Pacific Open. At this stage of the tournament, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will play against Misaki Doi from Japan.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova had a big win in the previous round as she defeated Kiki Bertens in straight sets. During the win, Pavlyuchenkova impressed with her receiving as she managed to win 54% of her receiving points which allowed her to break Kiki Bertens’ serve on 6 occasions. The serving was also very good from Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova as she won 70% of her service points. It has been a very good tournament for Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and having beaten Bertens, the draw has opened up for the Russian.
On the other side of the coin, Misaki Doi also had a big win in the previous round as she defeated Donna Vekic in straight sets. Doi won the opening set via a tiebreaker but dominated in the second set which she won 6-3. Playing on home soil seems to bring the best out of Doi as she has been in immense form over the past few weeks. Misaki Doi finished second at WTA Hiroshima last week. With Kiki Bertens being eliminated in the previous round, Doi will see this as an opportunity to make a big impact on the premier tournament in her home country. The fans have been providing Misaki Doi with supreme support and that should give her great confidence as she heads into this match.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Misaki Doi have played each other once in the past. The match was played in 2016 at the Wuhan Open where Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won following Doi’s retirement during the third set.
This should be a close match since both Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Misaki Doi are playing outstanding tennis. That being said, I am going to pick Misaki Doi to win this match. Doi is playing on home soil and that seems to give most players an edge. Misaki Doi has been in supreme form and she should be good enough to secure the win and a spot in the semifinals.
