The Line: -- Over/Under:
Latvian tennis player, Anastasija Sevastova is set to play at the 2019 Bucharest Open in Romania. Sevastova will begin her tournament against Ana Bogdan from Romania.
Anastasija Sevastova had a poor campaign at Wimbledon as she was eliminated in the second round by Danielle Rose Collins. The serving was the biggest problem for Sevastova at Wimbledon as she lost 8 service games in her 2 matches. Moving back to clay should assist Sevastova since the dependence on holding serve is significantly reduced. That being said, Anastasija Sevastova has been in decent form as she made the semifinals of the Mallorca Open and the fourth round of the French Open in June.
The Bucharest Open has always been a strong tournament for Anastasija Sevastova as she is the current reigning champion. Sevastova also made the final of this event in 2016. Considering her record at this event, Sevastova will be confident about her ability to play well at this tournament.
On the other side of the coin, Ana Bogdan was eliminated in the opening round at Wimbledon as she lost Johanna Konta in straight sets. It has not been a good season for Bogdan as she has only won 50% of her matches in 2019. This is a home tournament for Ana Bogdan and the Romanian will be hoping that the crowd will boost her performance. With that being said, this is a tough opening round match for Ana Bogdan as she is playing against the top seed.
Anastasija Sevastova and Ana Bogdan have played each other once in the past. The match was won by Ana Bogdan. The match took place at the Bucharest Open in 2017 with Bogdan winning the match in straight sets.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Anastasija Sevastova to win this match. Despite Bogdan beating Sevastova in 2016, I see too great of a skill difference between the players. Bogdan has been playing very poorly in 2019 while Sevastova has held her ground well. Anastasija Sevastova is the reigning champion and the top seed, and I see her winning this match in straight sets.
