Anastasija Sevastova and Johanna Konta meet in the fourth round of the 2016 US Open.

Anastasija Sevastova is coming off a straight sets win over Kateryna Bondarenko that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Sevastova won 69 percent of her first serve points and 44 percent of her second serve points. Sevastova is certainly making the most of this tournament and didn’t show many nerves coming fresh off a straight sets upset over Garbine Muguruza. Sevastova has now won 10 of her last 13 sets and has a chance to have her true breakthrough grand slam performance with another victory here. Sevastova hopes to make her first grand slam quarterfinal appearance. Sevastova has won seven of her last eight matches on hard court.

Johanna Konta is coming off a straight sets win over Belinda Bencic that took 15 games to decide. In the victory, Konta won 95 percent of her first serve points and 64 percent of her second serve points. Besides issue with the heat in the second round where she nearly passed out and then dropped the second set, Konta has had an easy tournament where she’s dropped a combined 13 games in the six sets she’s won. Konta continues her breakout season and is looking more and more like a consistent contender in grand slams. Konta hopes to make her second career grand slam quarterfinal. Konta has won seven of her last nine matches on hard court.

These two have played once in the past, which was in the 2013 Australian Open, a match Konta won in three sets. The match took 32 games to decide.

Sevastova was able to push Konta in their only appearance, but that was on clay and that as when Konta was a much younger and inexperienced player. Konta is lightyears better than she was in 2013 and has shown terrific consistently the last couple of months.

I’m siding with Konta to make another grand slam quarterfinal this season.

Pick:
Johanna Konta
