Anastasija Sevastova vs Wang Qiang - 01/19/19 WTA Tour - Australian Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The number 13 seed from Latvia, Anastasija Sevastova has made it into the third round of the 2019 WTA Australian Open. Sevastova will now play against the number 21 seed, Wang Qiang from China.

Anastasija Sevastova won her previous round match in 3 sets. It was a close match for Sevastova but he managed to return serve exceptionally well in the first and third sets to ensure victory. During the win, Sevastova won 46% of her receiving points which allowed her to win 5 return games. It is important to note that Anastasija Sevastova struggled with her serve as she only won 42% of her serving points. Furthermore, Sevastova conceded 3 service games which made life tough at times. This is expected to be a much tougher match for Anastasija Sevastova and she is going to have to improve her serve if she wishes to win.

On the other side of the court, Wang Qiang has looked in exceptional form all tournament. Wang won her previous round match in straight sets. It was a complete performance by Wang Qiang as she won all of her service games while managing to break her opponents serve on 3 occasions. Wang Qiang had an incredible finish to the 2018 season as she finished second at the WTA Elite Trophy. Considering her form in the matches leading up to this fixture, Wang Qiang will be tough to beat.

Wang Qiang and Anastasija Sevastova have played once in the past. The match was played in 2017 at WTA Dubai where Anastasija Sevastova won in straight sets.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Wang Qiang to win. Since the 2018 US Open, Wang Qiang has been in supreme form which seems to be continuing in this tournament. Both of Wang’s wins have been in a dominant manner and she is looking very confident on the court. Anastasija Sevastova, on the other hand, is struggling with her serve and hitting too many errors. With all this taken into consideration, I see Wang Qiang making the fourth round of the tournament.
