The Line: -- Over/Under:
The number 2 seed at the Mallorca Open, Anastasija Sevastova has made it into the quarterfinals. Sevastova will play against Wang Yafan from China for a place in the final 4.
Wang Yafan won her previous match in straight sets as she defeated Alison Van Uytvanck. It was a close match where Wang Yafan won her opening set via a tiebreaker before taking the second set 6-3. During the victory, Wang Yafan received serve exceptionally well. Wang won 47% of her receiving points which allowed her to break her opponent’s serve on 4 occasions.
It has been a very tough few months for Wang as she had not won a match during the entire clay court season. While clay is not Wang’s strongest surface, a record of 0-5 may have an impact on her confidence. Grass is also not a strength for Wang Yafan as she has only won 50% of her grass court matches.
On the other side of the coin, Anastasija Sevastova won her previous match in straight sets. It was a clinical performance by Sevastova as she won 10% of her service games and 5 return games. The serving was especially impressive from Sevastova as she won 80% of her service points.
The Mallorca Open has been very good to Anastasija Sevastova as she has played all 3 editions and has done very well. Sevastova has finished second twice at the Mallorca Open and has won the title once. Considering her record at this venue, Anastasija Sevastova will be very tough to defeat.
This will be the first time that Wang Yafan and Anastasija Sevastova will be playing each other at a WTA event.
Wang Yafan did well to win her previous match but the Chinese player has been in poor form and her record on grass is not great. Sevastova, on the other hand, has an extraordinary record at Mallorca and she looked extremely good in her two matches. Sevastova has the experience and skills to win this tournament and I see her winning this match with some ease.
