Anastasija Sevastova vs Yulia Putintseva - 3/24/19 WTA Tour - Miami Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The number 11 seed from Latvia, Anastasija Sevastova, has made it into the third round of the 2019 WTA Miami Open. Anastasija Sevastova will now face Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan.

Yulia Putintseva won her previous match in straight sets as she beat Belinda Bencic from Switzerland. It was a very convincing performance by Putintseva as she impressed with her serving. During the win, Yulia Putintseva won 66% of her service points which resulted in her winning 90% of her service games. This will be a much tougher match for Yulia Putintseva since Sevastova is a much higher ranked opponent.

On the other side of the court, Anastasija Sevastova won her previous match in 3 sets. It was a good match for Sevastova as she was dominant during the majority of the match although she had a poor second set which resulted in a final set. It has been a tough 2019 season for Sevastova as she has failed to make it past the fourth round of any tournament. Anastasija Sevastova’s record at the Miami Open is very poor as she has a win rate of only 50%. Sevastova has never made it past the third set at the Miami Open.

Anastasija Sevastova and Yulia Putintseva have played each other 3 times in the past. As it currently stands, Sevastova has a stronger head-to-head record of 2-1. The most recent match between these two players was 2018 at WTA Moscow where Sevastova won 3 sets. Yulia Putintseva’s win over Sevastova was in 2016 at WTA Wuhan.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Anastasija Sevastova to win. This is not an easy match to predict since neither player is playing particularly well. That being said, Anastasija Sevastova has more experience and is more accomplished so I am backing her to get the victory.
