Andrey Kuznetsov and Stan Wawrinka meet Saturday afternoon in the Miami Masters.

Andrey Kuznetsov is coming off a quick straight sets win over Rogerio Dutra Silva in the first round. Kuznetsov has been playing some solid tennis as of late with wins in five of his last seven matches, which includes a win over Jeremy Chardy at Indian Wells. Kuznetsov has been quietly climbing up the rankings with his strong, aggressive offensive game, as his 51st ranking is the highest of his young career at 25 years old. This could be the breakout year for Kuznetsov if he can continue to play at this level. This is only Kuznetsov’s second time playing in the Miami Masters and his first time winning a match.

Stan Wawrinka had a bye in the first round and will be eager to build on what has been a consistent 2016. Despite an upset loss at Indian Wells, Wawrinka has still won 15 of his last 18 matches, which includes titles at the Dubai Tennis Championships and Chennai Open. As long as Wawrinka is motivated and not getting in his head too much, he’s going to be a tough out this tournament. This could be the year Wawrinka has some real success in Miami. Wawrinka has made at least the third round in four of his last five appearances at the Miami Masters.

The only meeting between these two was in this year’s Indian Wells Masters, a match Wawrinka won in straight sets. This will obviously be the second time these two meet on hard court.

Kuznetsov is playing some confident tennis right now and was able to take Wawrinka to a tiebreaker in their only match about a week ago. However, betting against Wawrinka in his current form against a lesser player isn’t a smart move.

Wawrinka rolls.
