Russian tennis players, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev will be playing each other in the quarterfinals of the 2019 ATP Cincinnati Masters.
Andrey Rublev enters this match following a massive victory where he defeated Roger Federer. It was an outstanding performance by Rublev as he won in straight sets against the number 3 seed. During the win, Rublev received serve exceptionally well as he won 41% of his receiving points which allowed him to break Roger Federer’s serve on 3 occasions. The serving was also solid as Rublev won 90% of his service games. It has been an outstanding tournament for Andrey Rublev as he had already beaten the likes of Nikoloz Basilashvili and Stan Wawrinka prior to the match against Federer. Rublev will be high on confidence as he enters this match.
On the other side of the coin, Daniil Medvedev was clinical in the previous round as he defeated Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets. It was a dominant performance by Medvedev as he only lost 3 games in the entire match. The receiving was exceptionally strong by Medvedev as he won 53% of his receiving points which resulted in him winning 4 return games. Medvedev also served well as he hit 9 aces and 100% of his service games. It has been an outstanding few weeks for Medvedev as he made the finals of both the Citi Open and Rogers Cup. Considering his record leading into this tournament, Daniil Medvedev is a genuine contender to win the tournament.
This will be the first time that Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev will be playing each other at an ATP event.
Considering recent form, both Rublev and Medvedev will enter this match with confidence. That being said, I am going to pick Daniil Medvedev to win this match. Rublev has not proven himself at big tournaments and I see him struggling to handle the pressure of a quarterfinal match. Medvedev is in career-best form and he will be comfortable with the occasion having won 2 quarterfinal matches in the past few weeks. Medvedev is the stronger player and I see him being too good for Andrey Rublev in this match.
