Russian tennis player, Andrey Rublev has made it into the third round of the 2019 ATP Miami Open where he will face Denis Shapovalov. Shapovalov and Rublev are two of the top young players on the tour so we should expect a very good tennis match.
Andrey Rublev enters this match having beaten the number 9 seed, Marin Cilic, in the previous round. It was a big win for Rublev as he comfortably beat one of the top players in the world. During the win, Andrey Rublev impressed with his returning as he won 45% of his receiving points which allowed him to break Marin Cilic’s serve on 4 occasions. Rublev has been in very good form over the past few weeks as he has had deep runs at the Open 13 and Indian Wells Open prior to arriving at Miami.
On the other side of the coin, Denis Shapovalov struggled in his previous match as he lost the opening set. Shapovalov didn’t look at his best for a large portion of his previous match but he showed heart to get the win. It has been a decent season for Denis Shapovalov although he has failed to make any impactful runs. This will be a tough match for the Canadian since Rublev is in very good form.
Denis Shapovalov and Andrey Rublev have played once in the past. The match was played 2017 at the ATP Next Gen Finals in Milan where Andrey Rublev won in 5 sets.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Andrey Rublev to win this match. Rublev has looked in better form and the Russian will be high on confidence after recently beating Marin Cilic. Denis Shapovalov didn’t look at his best in the previous round and I see him losing this match.
