Andy Murray vs Roberto Bautista Agut - 01/14/19 ATP Tour - Australian Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Scottish tennis superstar, Andy Murray is set to face Roberto Bautista Agut from Spain in the opening round of the 2019 ATP Australian Open.

Roberto Bautista Agut has had an exceptional start to the 2019 season as he won the ATP Qatar Open in Doha. During the event, Agut played exceptionally well as he beat both Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic. The biggest asset for Roberto Bautista Agut in Qatar was his serve as the Spaniard only lost 4 service games in the entire tournament. This is a tough opening round match for Roberto Bautista Agut but considering his recent form, the Spaniard will be confident that he can beat Andy Murray.

On the other side of the coin, Andy Murray has had a tough few months as he struggled with injuries which caused him to miss many tournaments. Murray started his 2019 season at the Brisbane International although the Scot looked less than 100%. Murray only made it into the second round of the Brisbane International as he was beaten in straight sets by Daniil Medvedev. Judging by the performances at Brisbane, Murray is not moving freely yet and against an inform opponent in Roberto Bautista Agut, it is going to tough for the Scot.

Roberto Bautista Agut and Andy Murray have played 3 times in the past with Murray winning all of the matches. The most recent match between these two players was at the 2017 ATP Shanghai Masters where Andy Murray won in straight sets.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Roberto Bautista Agut to win. While Andy Murray is tremendously accomplished and skilled, the Scot doesn’t look 100%. Roberto Bautista Agut, on the other hand, is in amazing form and I see the Spaniard being too strong for Andy Murray.

Pick:
Roberto Bautista Agut
