Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova meets Anett Kontaveit as both players seek to make the quarterfinals of the 2020 WTA Dubai Open.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova incredibly came back from a set down against the defending champion, Belinda Bencic, to book her spot in the second-round. Pavlyuchenkova seemed beat in the first set, she just couldn't get her timing right on the ball. However, in the second set, when she had nothing else to lose, Pavlyuchenkova became the aggressor. Pavlyuchenkova began dictating play, she would boss Belinda Bencic around and she would not allow the defending champion to even get into rallies. Pavlyuchenkova looked completely different from the start of the match. She will now want to book her spot in the quarterfinals as she meets Anett Kontaveit in the second-round.
Anett Kontaveit beat Soran Cirstea in the first-round in what was a dominant performance. Kontaveit won 6-1/6-3 and her serving was amazing. Kontaveit won 79% of her first serves and 62% of her second serve points. Kontaveit is a good player and she is exciting to watch, she just lacks a bit of consistency in her game. When confident, Kontaveit can challenge better players than herself, but when she isn't, she is a different player. Kontaveit now faces a tough challenge against Pavlyuchenkova and she will need to be at her best.
This will be the 6th meeting between both players, with Kontaveit leading the H2H 3-2. Kontaveit looked great in her match and she started out incredibly well. Pavlyuchenkova took a little bit of time to get going, but when she did, there was no going back. This will be a tight match, but Pavlyuchenkova is in better form at the moment and if she plays like she did in those last two sets, then she should win easily.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to win.
