Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Wang Qiang will be playing Anett Kontaveit in the semifinals of the 2018 WTA Wuhan Open in China.

Wang Qiang has continued her dominance over this tournament as she recorded another straight sets win in the quarterfinals as she beat Monica Puig. In that win, Wang Qiang showed her dominance as a receiver as she only allowed Puig to win 2 service games in the entire match. The recent run that Wang Qiang has been on has amazed many as she finished in the top 4 at the Japan Open, won the Guangzhou Open and now has made another semifinal. The home fans are getting behind Wang and with the support of the crowd and the confidence from her recent wins, she will be very hard to stop in this tournament.

On the other side of the court, Anett Kontaveit enters this match having won her last match in straight sets. It was a good performance by Kontaveit as she won important points and broke serve when needed. That being said, Anett Kontaveit didn’t convince with her serve as she had a first serve percentage of only 64% and allowed her opponent to have too many chances during her service games. This will be a very tough match for Anett Kontaveit as she is playing an inform opponent who has the backing of the crowd.

This will be the first time that Wang Qiang and Anett Kontaveit will be playing each other at a WTA tournament.

All in all, I see Wang Qiang winning this match. With Wang in such an impressive purple patch and the crowd of her side, no player stands much of a chance. Anett Kontaveit has had some issues with her serve and with momentum on the side of the opponent, it will be very hard for her. Wang Qiang to make the second final in 2 weeks.
