Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

The 2018 Wimbledon champion, Angelique Kerber has made it into the second round of the 2018 WTA US Open. The German superstar will be taking on Johanna Larsson from Sweden in the second round of the tournament. Both players were very impressive in the opening round and both players look in good form. This should ensure we will get a great tennis match.

Johanna Larsson came from one set down to win her opening round match over a much higher ranked opponent in Alize Cornet. The win was very impressive and it showed the skill and fighting spirit of the Swedish player. It has been a tough few months for Johanna Larsson as she has been struggling to find any form in singles tennis. That win might spark a return to form which Johanna Larsson will be hoping for. This is going to be a very tough match since she is facing one of the best in the world. Johanna Larsson will need to be at her best if she wishes to compete with Angelique Kerber.

Angelique Kerber looked very strong in her opening round match as she won in straight sets. It has been a good few months for Kerber as she won Wimbledon and has seemed to have forgotten about her horror 2017. Angelique Kerber is a very strong hard court player and she has shown her ability at Flushing Meadows before as she won the 2016 US Open. Kerber is a very strong player and she will hope that she can win this match with some ease.

All in all, I am going to pick Angelique Kerber to win this match. The German is the stronger player and she is in much better form when compared to her opponent.  I see Angelique Kerber winning this match in straight sets.
