Angelique Kerber and Karolina Pliskova meet Sunday afternoon in the Cincinnati Masters Final.

Angelique Kerber is coming off a straight sets win over Simona Halep that took 19 games to decide. Kerber will now become the top player in the world with a victory here. Despite being exhausted after a deep run in the olympics, Kerber has still lost just one set this tournament and continues to play overall clean tennis. Given what’s on the line, this is easily one of the bigger matches ever for Kerber at 28 years old. On top of that, Kerber has a chance to win her third singles title this season and 10th for her career. Kerber has won 10 of her last 12 matches on hard court.

Karolina Pliskova is coming off a straight sets win over Garbine Muguruza that took 16 games to decide. Pliskova will now play in her third final this season and is hoping to eventually inch closer to once again being a top-10 player in the world. Pliskova has been red hot recently with wins in 10 of her last 13 matches and has won 10 of her last 13 sets overall. Pliskova has three wins over top-10 players this season and seven overall. Pliskova hopes to win her sixth career singles title and first since this year's Aegon Nottingham Open. Pliskova has won seven of her last nine matches on hard court.

These two have played six times in the past and Kerber has won four of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2015 Stanford Open, a match Kerber won in three sets. Pliskova’s last win over Kerber came in 2015 in Sydney.

Kerber has been the most consistent player the last couple of months and now has a chance to become No. 1 in the world. Even though she must be fatigued, you have to ride the hot hand here.

Give me Kerber to become Cincy champ.
