The Line: -- Over/Under:
2019 French Open champion, Ashleigh Barty has made it into the second round of the 2019 WTA Birmingham Classic. At this stage of the competition, Ashleigh Barty will play against Jennifer Brady from the United States.
Ashleigh Barty was dominant in her opening match as she defeated Donna Vekic in straight sets. During the win, Ashleigh Barty served very nicely as she won 62% of her service points which allowed her to win 80% of her service. In addition to that, Barty also won 4 return games to secure the victory.
Prior to arriving in Birmingham, Barty won the French Open which was her first Grand Slam title. It has been an outstanding season for Barty as she also won the Miami Masters earlier in the season. Ashleigh Barty has a good record at this tournament as she finished second at this event in 2017. Barty won the Nottingham Open last season which shows that she is a very capable grass court player.
On the other side of the coin, Jennifer Brady also won her previous match in straight sets. Brady received serve exceptionally strongly during her victory as she won 58% of her receiving points. Brady won 6 return games and 6 service games during her victory. It is important to note that Jennifer Brady struggled with her serve as she lost 33% of her service games.
Jennifer Brady has been in very good form as she finished second at the Nottingham Open last week. During her campaign in Nottingham, Brady defeated players like Maria Sakkari and Zhang Shuai.
Jennifer Brady and Ashleigh Barty have played once in the past. The match was played earlier in the season at Indian Wells where Ashleigh Barty won in straight sets.
Both Jennifer Brady and Ashleigh Barty have been outstanding touch so this promises to be a very high-quality tennis match. Barty has the recent French Open victory under her belt while Brady performed very well at a tournament with a similar setting to the Birmingham Classic. As far as predicting a winner is concerned, I am going to pick Ashleigh Barty to win. Barty recently won the French Open and her form in 2019 has been outstanding. Barty is a strong grass court player and I see her being too strong for Jennifer Brady.
