The Line: -- Over/Under:
Australian tennis superstar Ashleigh Barty has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2020 Australian Open. At this stage of the tournament, Barty will play against Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic.
Ashleigh Barty won a close match in the previous round where she defeated Alison Riske in 3 sets. It was a tight contest but Barty won a vital return game in the final set which allowed her to steal the victory. While Ashleigh Barty secured the win, she didn’t look convincing as she lacked intensity at times. Barty lost the second set 6-1 and she was lucky to win the match. This is a significantly tougher match for Ashleigh Barty and she must produce her best tennis if she wishes to win.
On the other side of the coin, Petra Kvitova has been in outstanding touch. Kvitova defeated Maria Sakkari in 3 sets in the previous round. Kvitova lost the opening set via a tiebreaker but she was dominant in the final 2 sets which she won comfortably. During the win, Petra Kvitova impressed with her receiving as she won close to 50% of her return points which allowed her to break her opponent’s serve on 8 occasions. Kvitova has an outstanding record at this tournament as she made the final of this event last season. Considering her recent form and her record at this event, Petra Kvitova will be optimistic about her chances of winning this match.
Petra Kvitova and Ashleigh Barty have played each other 7 times in the past. Kvitova has won on 4 occasions while Barty has won 3 times. The most recent match between these two players was in 2019 at the WTA Finals where Barty won in straight sets. Petra Kvitova defeated Barty at the Australian Open in 2019.
This should be an extremely close match since Barty and Kvitova are both elite players. With that in mind, I am going to pick Petra Kvitova to win this match. Petra Kvitova has looked in better touch and I see her having an edge since she has better results at the Australian Open. I see this match lasting 3 sets with Kvitova reaching the semifinals.
