Australian tennis superstar Ashleigh Barty is set to play against Petra Kvitova at the WTA Finals in China.
Petra Kvitova has lost both her prior matches and it is unlikely she will be able to qualify for the semifinals. A big win over Barty will keep the Kvitova’s hopes alive but she will need other results to be favorable. In the previous round, Petra Kvitova was defeated by Belinda Bencic in 3 sets. It was a poor display by Kvitova as she struggled with her serve. Kvitova only managed to win 50% of her service points which resulted in her losing 5 service games. The receiving was strong but that was not enough for the Czech superstar. This is expected to be a tough match for Petra Kvitova as she is playing against the number 1 seed.
Looking at Ashleigh Barty, the Australian will secure a spot in the semifinals if she wins this match. Barty was defeated in the previous round as she lost to Kiki Bertens. Bertens dominated Barty’s serve and that made it tough for the Australian to gain any momentum. Similar to Kvitova, Barty struggled with her serving as she had her serve broken on 7 occasions. It has not been the best tournament for Barty as she looked poor during her win against Bencic also. This is a big match for Ashleigh Barty and she will be hoping to secure a spot in the next round.
Petra Kvitova and Ashleigh Barty have played each other 6 times in the past. Kvitova has won on 4 occasions while Barty has won twice. 4 of the prior matches between Barty and Kvitova have been played this season with both players winning on 2 occasions.
I am going to make a bold prediction and pick Petra Kvitova to win this match. Neither player has looked at their best in this tournament but I with less pressure, I feel Kvitova will be able to fully express her ability. These two players are closely matched but I see Kvitova having enough to edge a victory.
