Ashleigh Barty has made it into the second round of the 2020 Australian Open. At this stage of the tournament, Barty will play against Polona Hercog from Slovenia.

Polona Hercog had a solid victory in the opening match as she won her fixture in straight sets. The receiving was very strong from Polona Hercog as the Slovenian over 50% of her receiving points which allowed her to break her opponent’s serve on 4 occasions. The serving was also solid for Hercog as she won 89% of her service points. This is expected to be a much tougher match for Polona Hercog as she is playing against the number 1 seed.

Looking at Ashleigh Barty, the Australian has big expectations as she is playing on home soil. Barty had a tough start to the tournament as she lost her opening set but fought back strongly to win the final 2 sets and the match. During the victory, Ashleigh Barty won 77% of her service games and 7 return games. The receiving was especially impressive as Ashleigh Barty won 57% of her receiving points. The Australian Open has been a relatively tough tournament for Barty as she has never made it past the quarterfinals. That being said, Barty looked in decent form and she will be hoping to challenge for the title.

This will be the first time that Ashleigh Barty and Polona Hercog will be playing each other at a WTA event.

Polona Hercog looked very impressive during the opening round and I am expecting her to challenge Ashleigh Barty throughout this fixture. Despite that, I still see Ashleigh Barty winning this match. Barty has been in decent touch and she seems to be boosted by the fact that she is playing on home soil. I am expecting this match to last 3 sets but Barty to be the eventual winner.
