The Line: -- Over/Under:
Czech superstar, Barbora Strycova will play American youngster, Sofia Kenin in the opening rubber of the 2018 Fed Cup final.
Barbora Strycova will be playing her second singles match at this year's Fed Cup after she played in the quarterfinal when the Czech Republic faced Switzerland. In that fixture, Barbora Strycova beat Belinda Bencic in straight sets. Heading into this match, Strycova has been in decent form as she played well at multiple WTA tournaments including the Linz Open and Pan Pacific Open. Prior to this Fed Cup tie, Barbora Strycova competed in the doubles tournament at the WTA Finals where her team made it into the semifinals. Barbora Strycova is a very experienced at this level as she first represented her country at the Fed Cup in 2002. With such experience and form heading into this match, it is expected that Barbora Strycova will have an advantage over her opponent.
In contrast, Sofia Kenin is far less experienced as she is playing her first Fed Cup match. Kenin is a very promising player and has been in great form prior to this match as she played well events such as the WTA Wuhan Open. That being said, the pressure will be significantly higher in this match as Kenin will be representing her country and an opening round loss will make life tough for the team. Kenin is a very aggressive player but it may be hard for her to continue her aggression in such a high-pressure fixture.
This will be the first time that Barbora Strycova and Sofia Kenin play each other.
This will be an interesting match but I am going to pick Barbora Strycova to win. Barbora Strycova is significantly more experienced and that should provide a huge advantage to the Czech considering the pressure placed on both players. Barbora Strycova enters this match in good form and I see her getting an opening round win for the Czech Republic.
