Belinda Bencic and Kaia Kanepi meet in the second round of the 2019 tennis Wimbledon.
Belinda Bencic is coming off a straight sets win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Bencic won 76 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points. Bencic won 69 percent of her total service points and converted on four of her 11 break points. Bencic got 71 percent of her first serves in play and saved two of her three break points. The keys for Bencic are the first serve percentage and the unforced errors, as she has the ability to go a long way if she’s making just five unforced errors. Bencic hopes to make a grand slam third round for the fourth time in her last five tries. Bencic has won six of her last eight matches on grass court.
Kaia Kanepi is coming off a three sets win over Stefanie Voegele that took 34 games to decide. In the victory, Kanepi won 67 percent of her first serve points and 43 percent of her second serve points. Kanepi won 56 percent of her total service points and converted on seven of her 16 break points. Kanepi got 56 percent of her first serves in play and saved eight of her 14 break points. It was a solid performance considering Kanepi hasn’t played on grass since last years Wimbledon. Kanepi hopes to make a grand slam third round for the five time in her last eight tries. Kanepi hasn’t made a Wimbledon third round appearance since 2013. Kanepi has split her last six matches on grass court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
Kanepi doesn’t have the reps on grass to beat Bencic, who has had plenty of preparation on this surface leading into this tournament and has been easily one of the most consistent players on the women’s side to this point. Kanepi is also going to be fighting an uphill battle all match if she gives Bencic double-digit looks at break point. I just don’t see what Kanepi can do to keep this match competitive.
Give me Bencic in straight sets.
