Belinda Bencic and Karolina Pliskova meet in the quarterfinal of the 2019 tennis Indian Wells.
Belinda Bencic is coming off a straight sets win over Naomi Osaka that took 16 games to decide. In the victory, Bencic won 82 percent of her first serve points and 50 percent of her second serve points. Bencic won 70 percent of her total service points and converted on five of her eight break points. Bencic has won all six sets this tournament and now has 18 career wins over top-10 players, with five of those wins coming this year. Bencic has also won 11 straight matches when you throw in two Fed Cup performances, making this easily the best stretch of her young career. Bencic hopes to make the semifinal of a Premier Mandatory for the third time in her career. Bencic has won 11 of her last 12 matches on outdoor hard court.
Karolina Pliskova is coming off a three sets win over Anett Kontaveit that took 31 games to decide. In the victory, Pliskova won 70 percent of her first serve points and 39 percent of her second serve points. Pliskova won 60 percent of her total service points and converted on five of her seven break points. Pliskova has combined for 38 aces in her first three matches and is in the quarterfinal for a fourth straight tournament. As long as the serve stays intact, she’s a legit threat to make a run at this title. Pliskova hopes to make the semifinal of a Premier Mandatory for the fifth time in her career. Pliskova has won five of her last six matches on outdoor hard court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
I’m not sure how anybody can bet against Bencic with what she’s done to start the season and how she’s piled up an unreal amount of wins over top-10 players. I picked against Bencic yesterday only to watch her dominate Osaka from start to finish. Bencic has everything working for her right now and her aggressive return should put pressure on Pliskova’s serve. Make Pliskova uncomfortable and she’s not the same player.
I’m done stepping in front of Bencic.
