Belinda Bencic vs Kateryna Kozlova - 5/8/19 Madrid Open Tennis Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Ukrainian tennis player, Kateryna Kozlova, has made it into the third round of the 2019 WTA Madrid Open. At this stage of the tournament, Kozlova will play against Belinda Bencic from Switzerland.

Kateryna Kozlova had a big win in the previous round as she eliminated the number 5 seed, Karolina Pliskova. It was a very close match but Kozlova held her nerve to win the final set 6-4 and take the victory. During the win, Kateryna Kozlova received serve exceptionally well. Kozlova won close to 40% of her return points which allowed her to break Karolina Pliskova’s serve on 4 occasions. While the win over Pliskova was massive, Kateryna Kozlova will have to be at her best for this match as Bencic is also a very accomplished opponent.

On the other side of the coin, Belinda Bencic also won her previous match in 3 sets. Bencic was outplayed in the second set but the Swiss superstar was very solid in the opening and final sets which ensured her victory. Belinda Bencic was exceptional while returning serve as she won 44% of her receiving points which allowed her to win 5 break points. Prior to this season, Belinda Bencic had never won at the Madrid Open. While her record at this event is concerning, Belinda Bencic has looked very strong throughout this tournament and she seems to be playing with a lot of confidence.

Kateryna Kozlova and Belinda Bencic have not played each other in the past.

Taking everything into notice, I am going to pick Belinda Bencic to win this match. Kateryna Kozlova had a big win in the previous round but I don’t see her repeating such a performance. Bencic is a stronger player than Kozlova and the Swiss player has looked very impressive in her 2 matches at this tournament. I see Belinda Bencic winning this match and making it into the quarterfinals.

Pick:
Belinda Bencic
