Bernard Tomic and Novak Djokovic meet Friday in the third round of the 2015 Wimbledon.
Bernard Tomic is coming off a five-set victory over Jan-Lennard Struff, which took just over two hours. Tomic is getting at least 73 percent of his first serves in play and is coming off a match he won 82 percent of his first serve points. Tomic is winning at least 53 percent of his second serve points and has four total double faults. Tomic has hit 28 aces, 78 winners and has 34 unforced errors in his first two matches. Tomic is making quite an impression at the young age of 22 years old, as he continues to climb up the rankings in ATP tennis. Still, this match will really prove how good Tomic can be. Tomic has advanced to the fourth round of a grand slam four times in his career, twice have taken place in the Wimbledon.
Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight sets victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber, which took just over two hours. Djokovic is getting at least 68 percent of his first serves in play and has won at least 75 percent of those points. Djokovic is winning at least 57 percent of his second serve points and has a combined two double faults. Djokovic has 20 aces, 74 winners and has produced 34 unforced errors in his first two matches. It’s been the same song and dance with Djokovic all year, as he makes very little mistakes and continues to hit his spots with ease. Djokovic proves each match why he’s the best in the game right now. Djokovic hasn’t been eliminated in the third round of a grand slam since the 2009 French Open.
These two have played three times, and Djokovic has won all three meetings. The most recent took place at the 2012 Canadian Masters, a match that Djo won in straight sets. Tomic has only won one set against Djokovic, which came in the 2011 Wimbledon. This is the second time they play on grass.
Tomic has the potential to be something special in a couple of years, but it’s hard to bet against Djokovic when he’s facing a guy who is still so young. Look for another quick win here.
