Canadian tennis superstar, Bianca Andreescu has made it into the second round of the 2019 WTA China Open. At this stage of the tournament, Andreescu is set to play against Elise Mertens.
Elise Mertens played exceptionally well in the previous round as she defeated Petra Martic in straight sets. During the win, Mertens impressed with her serving as she won close to 80% of her service points which allowed her to win all of her service games. Furthermore, Elise Mertens also received exceptionally well as she managed to break Petra Martic’s serve on 4 occasions. It has been a strong few months for Elise Mertens as she made the quarterfinals of the US Open and semifinals of the Japan Open. That being said, the draw has been tough on Mertens and she is expected to be challenged in this match.
Looking at Bianca Andreescu, the Canadian has been exceptional since the start of the North American season Andreescu has won her previous two tournaments which were the US Open and the Rogers Cup. Over the past few weeks, Andreescu has defeated the likes of Serena Williams, Kiki Bertens, Karolina Pliskova and Caroline Wozniacki. Andreescu continued her supreme form in the previous round where she won her match in 3 sets. Andreescu seemed to lose concentration during the second set but she controlled the majority of the match which ensured a simple win. Considering her elite form, Bianca Andreescu will be very tough to beat in this tournament.
Elise Mertens and Bianca Andreescu have played each other once in the past. The match was played only weeks ago at the US Open where Andreescu defeated Mertens in 3 sets.
Elise Mertens has been playing outstanding tennis and she will be hoping to end Andreescu’s dream run. That being said, I see Bianca Andreescu winning this match. Andreescu has been able to dominate against most players in the world and I see her having too much for Elise Mertens in this match.
