Bianca Andreescu vs Sofia Kenin - 3/1/19 WTA Tour - Mexican Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Gerry Angus-USA TODAY Sports

American tennis superstar, Sofia Kenin will play against Bianca Andreescu from Canada in the semifinal of the 2019 WTA Mexican Open.

Bianca Andreescu enters this match having beaten the number 7 seed, Zheng Saisai, in straight sets. It was a very impressive display by Bianca Andreescu as she impressed with her returning of serve. During the win, Andreescu won 46% of her receiving points which allowed her to break her opponent’s serve on 4 occasions. It is important to note that Bianca Andreescu had her own issues while serving as she had a first serve percentage of less than 60%. Bianca Andreescu allowed her opponent to break her service on 2 occasions. This is expected to be a much tougher match for Bianca Andreescu as Sofia Kenin has been in very good form.

On the other side of the court, Sofia Kenin produced a big win in the previous round as she eliminated Victoria Azarenka. It was a very solid performance by Kenin as she won 8 break points to win the overall match in 3 sets. Similar to Bianca Andreescu, Sofia Kenin also had her own serving issues as she allowed Azarenka to win 7 return games. It has been a very strong season for Sofia Kenin as she won the WTA Hobart International in January. With the confidence from that title win still present, Kenin will be very hard to beat.

Bianca Andreescu and Sofia Kenin have played each other once in the past. The match was played in 2017 where Bianca Andreescu won in straight sets.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Sofia Kenin to win. Kenin is a much stronger player when compared to Bianca Andreescu. Furthermore, Kenin looks to have more confidence having recently won a WTA title. With that in mind, I see Bianca Andreescu making the final of this tournament.
