Wang Qiang from China has made it into the third round of the 2019 WTA Indian Wells Open in California. At this stage of the tournament, Wang will play against Bianca Andreescu from Canada.
Wang Qiang enters this match in decent form having beaten Elise Mertens in the previous round. It was a close match which Wang won in 3 sets. During the victory, Wang Qiang returned serve exceptionally well as she won 44% of her service games which resulted in her winning 6 break points. It is important to note that Wang struggled to serve well during the win as she allowed Elise Mertens to break her serve on 5 occasions. Wang had a very strong finish to the 2018 season but she has not started the 2019 season off on the same level. That being said, Wang is very experienced and she will hope to continue the good form she has shown at Indian Wells.
On the other side of the coin, Bianca Andreescu won her previous match with ease as she finished the match in straight sets. It was a very dominant display by Bianca Andreescu as she only lost 3 games in the entire match. During the win, Andreescu won all of her service games and broke her opponent’s serve on 4 occasions to set up a comfortable win. Bianca Andreescu has been in very good form recently as she finished in the top 4 at the Mexican Open prior to arriving at Indian Wells.
This will be the first time that Wang Qiang and Bianca Andreescu will be playing each other at a WTA event.
Wang Qiang and Bianca Andreescu will both enter this match with the expectation of victory but I see the Canadian taking victory. Wang is a very skilled player but she has not been at her best this season. Bianca Andreescu, on the other hand, has been exceptional and her results in WTA tournaments in 2019 have been much better than that of Wang. With that in mind, I see Bianca Andreescu winning this match.
