France will open their Davis Cup final with Jeremy Chardy who will be facing Croatian superstar, Borna Coric.

Jeremy Chardy is a very experienced player and was a part of the 2017 France team that won this tournament. Unfortunately for France, Chardy has been in poor form recently as he has only won 2 matches since the end of the US Open. Chardy has been struggling to win return games which will be very problematic as he is facing an exceptional server in Borna Coric. The biggest advantage for Chardy will be the fact that this tie is being played in France meaning he will have the support of the crowd which should boost his confidence.

On the other side of the coin, Borna Coric enters this tournament is very good form as he finished second at the ATP Shanghai Masters and made the quarterfinals of the ATP Vienna Open. Coric has been a regular for this team and he has done exceptionally well all tournament having won 3 rubbers for his country. With the confidence of Marin Cilic as his teammate, Coric should be able to play with freedom which will make him very hard to beat.

Borna Coric and Jeremy Chardy have played 3 times in the past with Chardy winning on 2 occasions and Coric winning once. The most recent meeting between these two players was at the 2017 Monte Carlo Masters where Chardy won in 3 sets. Borna Coric’s win over Jeremy Chardy was in 2015.

While Chardy has a good record against his opponent, I see him losing this match. Borna Coric has been in much better form and he is playing exceptional tennis as seen during the Shanghai Masters. I see Borna Coric as the stronger player and he should open this tie with a win for Croatia.
