The Line: -- Over/Under:
Borna Coric and Nikoloz Basilashvili meet in the quarterfinals of the 2019 tennis Dubai.
Borna Coric is coming off a three sets win over Tomas Berdych that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Coric won 71 percent of his first serve points and 64 percent of his second serve points. Coric won 69 percent of his total service points and converted on two of his eight break points. Coric dug deep in his victory, as he lost the first set in seven games and had to win a third set tiebreak. It’s a win that could either carry Coric to a final appearance or one that could have him mentally and physically drained. Coric has a chance to win three matches in a single tournament for the second time in his last three tries. Coric has won five of his last six matches on outdoor hard court.
Nikoloz Basilashvili is coming off a three sets win over Roberto Bautista-Agut that took 32 games to decide. In the victory, Basilashvili won 81 percent of his first serve points and 62 percent of his second serve points. Basilashvili won 73 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his nine break points. Basilashvili also won his match after dropping the first set, and he hit 19 aces to power his way to victory. Basilashvili has now won four of his last five matches that have gone the distance. Basilashvili can win three matches in a single tournament for the first time since winning the title in Beginning back in October. Basilashvili has won four of his last five matches on outdoor hard court.
These two have split the previous four meetings with Coric winning the last two matches. The most recent meeting was in Halle of last year. Basilashvili’s last win over Coric came in Cincinnati of 2017. Three of the four matches have been decided in straight sets.
Coric won both meetings against Basilashvili last year and has probably been the more consistent player up to this point this season. Coric is also an emotional player who plays with a ton of passion, so I can only imagine what his recent performance does for his confidence. There’s likely a carryover in this match. Basilashvili can certainly win this match if he continues to pile up the free points on his serve, but I trust Coric’s overall game a bit more at the moment.
