Borna Coric and Robin Haase meet in the second round of the 2019 tennis Hungarian.
Borna Coric is coming off a quarterfinal trip in Monte Carlo and has won six of his last eight matches overall. Coric is coming off a performance where he really struggled with his serve and completely melted down despite winning the first set 6-1. Coric has played a lot of tennis up to this point considering six of his last eight matches have been decided in straight sets. Consistency and an improved serve would make Coric work less harder than he has lately. Coric has lost his opening match in two of his last five tournaments. Coric has split his last six matches on clay court.
Robin Haase is coming off a three sets win over Thomas Fabbiano that took 30 games to decide. In the victory, Haase won 73 percent of his first serve points and 61 percent of his second serve points. Haase won 68 percent of his total service points and converted on five of his 12 break points. Haase dominated the match after dropping a first set tiebreak and ended up saving four of his five break points. Haase gives himself an honest chance here if he continues to get 70-plus percent of his first serves in play. Haase has a chance to win back-to-back matches for the first time since the Miami Open. Haase has split his last four matches on clay court.
These two have played twice and split those meetings. Coric won in Chennal in 2015 and Haase won in the 2014 Davis Cup. Both matches were decided in straight sets.
Coric has played a lot of tennis these past few weeks and constantly leaves th door open for his opponent. Coric is still the better player overall and is in much better form. Haase has lost seven of his last 12 matches and has had issues making deep tournament runs or beating a quality opponent.
This is a match Coric should win, likely in straight sets for a change.
