The Line: -- Over/Under:
Brayden Schnur and Reilly Opelka meet in the final of the 2019 tennis New York Open.
Brayden Schnur is coming off a three sets win over Sam Querrey that took 32 games to decide. In the victory, Schnur won 80 percent of his first serve points and 31 percent of his second serve points. Schnur won 68 percent of his total service points and converted on two of his five break points. Schnur has won each of his last three matches in three sets, so there’s some concerns about fatigue considering the 23-year-old isn’t used to these type of runs, especially on the main tour. Schnur has played a ton of tennis to get to this point, and he has a shot at the biggest win of his career if he can continue to dominate his first serve the way he has lately. Schnur has a chance to win his first ever ATP singles title and this is his first ever final appearance. Schnur has won 10 of his last 12 matches on indoor hard court.
Reilly Opelka is coming off a three sets win over John Isner that took 39 games to decide. In the victory, Opelka won 91 percent of his first serve points and 75 percent of his second serve points. Opelka won 87 percent of his total service points and saved his only break point. It was an incredible performance from Opelka, who managed to fight off many match points in the second set to eventually seal the victory in a third set tiebreak. If Opelka can continue to serve at this level and hit his spots, he’ll lockup what would be the biggest victory of his career. Opelka has a chance to win his first ever ATP singles title and this is his first ever final appearance. Opelka has won seven of his last nine matches on indoor hard court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
You can make a case for either of these guys considering it’s their first final appearance and you have no idea which player is going to handle the pressure better. What we do know is that Opelka has been a serving machine up to this point and just outlasted the best server in the game. You have to like the confidence of Opelka at the moment.
I give Opelka the edge to win his first ever title.
