Carla Suarez Navarro and Caroline Wozniacki meet in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Australian Open.

Carla Suarez Navarro is coming off a three sets win over Anett Kontaveit that took 34 games to decide. In the victory, Navarro won 60 percent of her first serve points and 64 percent of her second serve points. Navarro has needed three sets in each of her last three matches to advance, but she’s been consistent with her serve and managed to survive 53 winners from her opponent in her last match. Navarro simply needs to keep girding and not let a sloppy game here or there impact her performance overall. Navarro has a chance to reach her first ever grand slam semifinal. Navarro is 0-5 in her career in grand slam quarterfinal appearances. Navarro has split her last eight matches on hard court.

Caroline Wozniacki is coming off a straight sets win over Magdalena Rybarikova that took 15 games to decide. In the victory, Wozniacki won 77 percent of her first serve points and 42 percent of her second serve points. Wozniacki has been lights out in her last two matches since a serious scare in the second round against Jana Fett, as she’s dropped just 10 games since that contest. Wozniacki is returning extremely well and forcing her opponent to make incredible shots in order to win the point. Wozniacki is simply in great form right now and has a real shot to win her first ever grand slam. Wozniacki can reach her seventh grand slam semifinal and second ever in the Australian Open. Wozniacki is 6-3 in her career in grand slam semifinal appearances. Wozniacki has won 10 of her last 11 matches on hard court.

These two have played seven times and Wozniacki has won five of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2017 Madrid Masters, a match Navarro won in three sets. Wozniacki is 3-0 in her career against Navarro on hard court.

Wozniacki has been a force on hard court since the WTA Championships and has to think she has a real shot to win her first ever grand slam with the draw opening up. It doesn’t get much better than this for her. Navarro is always a tough pro and puts up a fight, but Wozniacki’s defense and ability to cover ground is always the difference maker. Navarro doesn’t have the shotmaking skills to counter on hard court.

Wozniacki rolls to the semis.
