Danielle Parhizkaran-USA TODAY Sports

French superstar, Caroline Garcia will play Xun Fangying from China in the opening round of the 2018 WTA Tianjin Open in China.

Xun Fangying entered this tournament via the qualifying events where she won both of her matches with ease. It has been a tough few weeks for Xun as she has failed to qualify for the last 3 tournaments she attempted. This is expected to be a very tough opening round of Xun Fangying as she is playing the number 2 seed and she will need to be at her best if she wishes to compete with her opponent. That being said, Xun Fangying is playing in her home country so the support of the crowd might give her a boost.

On the other side of the court, Caroline Garcia enters this tournament as world number 8. It has been a difficult few months for Caroline Garcia as she has failed to make it past the third round since the US Open. Garcia is among the best players in the world and she would be expecting to do much better. Caroline Garcia’s last tournament was the WTA China Open where she lost in the third round of Aryna Sabalenka. In that defeat, Caroline Garcia struggled with her serve as she lost 7 service games. While her serve should not be a massive issue in this match, Garcia will look to improve to ensure she can improve her performances in matches in the later stages of this tournament. As far as this fixture is concerned, Caroline Garcia should not be troubled as her opponents is ranked over 200 spots below her.

This will be the first time that Caroline Garcia and Xun Fangying will be playing each other.

All in all, I am picking Caroline Garcia to win this match. Garcia is a much better player than Xun Fangying and I see her making the next round of this tournament.
