The Line: -- Over/Under:
Caroline Wozniacki and Aryna Sabalenka meet in the third round of the 2019 tennis Eastbourne International.
Caroline Wozniacki is coming off a straight sets win over Andrea Petkovic that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Wozniacki won 83 percent of her first serve points and 39 percent of her second serve points. Wozniacki won 67 percent of her total service points and converted on three of her six break points. Wozniacki got 63 percent of her first serves in play and saved four of her five break points. Wozniacki was aggressive with her return and highly efficient with her first serve, a formula that helped her win this tournament last year. It’s just a matter of consistency with Wozniacki, as her level comes and goes far too often. Wozniacki hopes to win three straight matches for the first time since making the final in Charleston. Wozniacki has won eight of her last nine matches on grass court.
Aryna Sabalenka is coming off a straight sets win over Tamara Zidansek that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Sabalenka won 82 percent of her first serve points and 52 percent of her second serve points. Sabalenka won 68 percent of her total service points and converted on five of her 12 break points. Sabalenka got 53 percent of her first serves in play and saved five of her six break points. Sabalenka can get a better percentage of her first serves in play, but her aggressive return seems to be back and will be key to her getting back on track. Sabalenka looks to win two straight matches for the first time since Strasbourg. Sabalenka has lost four of her last five matches on grass court.
These two have split the previous two matches, as Sabalenka won 2018 Montreal in three sets and Wozniacki won 2018 Eastbourne in straight sets.
Wozniacki is coming off some of her more complete matches of the year and she’s played some of her best tennis overall on grass over the last year or so. Sabalenka is going through a rough patch at the moment and has had her fair share of struggles on grass dating back to last year. Sabalenka can also get in her own head very easily and that doesn’t help against a player like Wozniacki.
Wozniacki inches closer to defending her title with a victory here.
