Caroline Wozniacki and Cagla Buyukakcay meet in round of 32 in the 2016 Nottingham Open.
Caroline Wozniacki will play her first match since losing to Elina Svitolina in the Miami Masters, as she’s been nursing an ankle injury. Wozniacki will also play her first match since picking up a new coach in David Kotyza, who is most known for getting the best out of Petra Kvitova. Wozniacki has really struggled in 2016 as she’s lost seven of her last 12 matches and really hasn’t looked like herself since making the semifinals of the Auckland Open. Due to the struggles, Wozniacki has fallen out of the top-30 and is desperate for something positive. It’s going to be interesting to see how Wozniacki looks due to so much time off and if she can return to being one of the top players on tour.
Cagla Buyukakcay enters this tournament with great confidence and momentum, as she just won the Istanbul Cup in April and her current ranking of 81st is the highest it’s been in her career. Buyukakcay hs won 10 of her last 12 matches when you include French Open qualifying, and she did make it to the second round of a grand slam for the first time ever. It’s safe to say Buyukakcay is kind of having her breakout season at 26 years old, which includes her first career WTA title and some grand slam success. Buyukakcay can only hope she can continue hitting the ball well, as she has a chance to continue flying up the rankings in her current form. However, Buyukakcay has lost seven of her last eight matches on grass court.
This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.
This is a tough match to call simply because we have no idea what Wozniacki is going to look like with all this time off and a new coach. Buyukakcay is also playing some of the best tennis of her life.
This match will be interesting but I’ll side with Wozniacki to get the bounce back victory. She knows she needs a win here to build confidence before the Wimbledon.
